THE DOG HUB - Promoting responsible dog ownership in the Borough of Camden

WALK and TRAIN

The Dog Hub. Dog training in the London Borough of Camden. What is Walk and Train?

In Walk and Train, the trainer takes the dog out for a walk and carries out training at the same time.

How does it work?

A training package is agreed in advance at a pre-training consultation between the dog owner (and family, or dog walker, etc where appropriate) and the trainer. Realistic goals and targets are set.

What happens?

  • The trainer takes the dog out for a walk and teaches it new skills - ie loose leash walking, default sit, polite meet and greet (to humans and other dogs).
  • When the training is complete, the trainer has follow a up session with owner to "hand over" managing the new skills with the dog.

Walk and Train packages are convenient for clients who (for whatever reasons) cannot, or do not want, to train their dog themselves. We understand this. After all, not everyone wants to be a dog trainer! They just want a happy, well-behaved dog and would rather hire a highly skilled dog professional to do the training for them. However owners must be totally committed to the transfer sessions and follow through using the cues for behaviours that the trainer has taught the dog.
